The Waxing Gibbous Moon – A lesson about balance, adjustments, and letting go of perfection

Keywords: patience, adjustments, looking back, introspection, acknowledging progress

Activities: journaling, problem-solving, spending time alone, learn a new skill

It’s like you’re almost there. You might actually be able to touch for a brief moment the apogee of what you’ve patiently built so far in this moon cycle. But right now it is needed to have more patience than before. The sword you wish so eagerly to swing must be honed first. You’ve just entered the refining stage.

The Waxing Gibbous Moon, with its ‘almost full’ look tells us a story about balance, adjustments, and the art of letting go of perfection. It’s an unskippable stage that the moon itself holds dearly onto. The moon knows each and every phase must take place in order to achieve completion. One mustn’t rush to finish anything, not before taking a pause, breathing, and looking for a second time at what they’ve done so far. We get so caught up in wanting things to get done, that we forget about their quality, lessons, and skills that are brought alongside.

This is where the Waxing Gibbous Moon takes a step in, to guide us into asking ourselves if what we’ve accomplished so far was what we expected and how we can get to something that resonates with this newer version of us, who’s sitting near the end of a project.

What does the Waxing Gibbous phase want us to do?

You might be all over the place right now, wanting to escape a task, to begin another, but it’s important to stay grounded, to enjoy the process of making things before it ends. This phase urges you to take a step back and rewire. You might think that your energy is gone already, as you’re approaching the finish line, but you must hold tight on that last dose until you cross that edge.

This is a good time to think about why you began the race in the first place. Set your intentions right, and, since you still have time to make changes to your route, find the path that currently suits you the most.

The spiritual lesson

Trust your inner wisdom and let go of perfection. Hence you are the closest you can get to ending what you’ve started, it’s hard to modify what has already been done. Accept these imperfections and work with them as tools for the refining stage. Sculpt them into valorous pieces to be presented at the Full Moon, when you’ll receive the goods of what you’ve cultivated this cycle.

The Waxing Arc

Dr. K. Parvathi Kumar calls The Waxing Arc the ‘objective light’, which determines a tendency to think more strategically about the goals you’ve seeded during the new moon. In the path from new moon to full moon, the growing illumination by the sun signifies the expansion of our own awareness, as the moon transitions from darkness to increasing light. ( WORKING WITH THE FULL MOON & THE NEW MOON, p. 24)

Spiritually, the waxing arc encourages a mindset of alignment between our inner and outer selves; it’s a period to assess progress, refine our paths, and bring aspirations from the realm of intention into the physical world.
